If you have the opportunity to holiday in Buenos Aries, be sure to spend some time dancing the Argentine style tango. If you are visiting on business, or only have a few days, even hours in Buenos Aries, nothing will give you the best snapshot of the culture like visiting a milonga or a place where Tango is danced. Tradition has it that Tango, that seductive Latin American dance originated in Buenos Aires, and true or not, it is still the dance of passion in the city. While in Buenos Aires, it will not be difficult to find a milonga, and just a little more exploration and you will be rewarded with excellent dance, food, drink and music and become completely immersed in the culture.

When you first arrive in Buenos Aires, look for one of the commonplace publications which list local milongas. They can be usually be found in hotels, or shops selling clothing for tango. These publications list places where tango shows are preformed, or clubs and bars where tango is taught and danced.

In Buenos Aires, there are practica, or places where the tango can be taught and practiced. These practicas take place in clubs, lounges, dance schools, even outside in parks. You can find an instructor for a little cost, or even free. If free, it is polite to tip your instructor discreetly. Even if you Tango in the United States, or in Europe, take time to learn the Argentine style. It is different than any other place in the world. Early in Argentina s history, when people were arriving in the country from Europe, there was also an influx of African slaves who were being freed or escaping. Together, the European and African music melded into a unique rhythm and style that is unique in the world of dance, even to this day.

Once you decide to Tango your time away in Buenos Aires, you will want to find a place to show off your new skills. As stated before, it is easy to find a dance club for Tango. When you visit, take time to dance with other tourists and visitors, but also try to connect with locals. It depends greatly where you go whether or not you will find locals or only tourists at the clubs. Even if you are visiting a predominately tourist milonga, take time to further practice your new found skill. If you want to experience a deeper Latin encounter, ask locals where other milonga are located, and go and visit. It is likely that unless you are a regular dancer, you might not be asked to dance, but you will be able to observe the style.

While you are dancing at a practica, or in a milonga in Buenos Aires, be sure to show respect to the locals. Ask locals where they are going to dance later tonight, or tomorrow, and you will often be able to find the hangouts of the locals. Be adventurous. While dancing, nourish yourself with local offerings and quench your thirst with the drinks at the bar. Ask locals what they are ordering, or be observant.

There is no place like a milonga, and no activity like the tango to experience the true culture of Buenos Aires. If you have a long leisurely holiday, or just a few hours or days in the City of Good Airs, Take time to tango.
